APPLE
This is a company keeps everything very secretive until the very end. For example when opening a new store they don't tell the location or time of the opening until just a week before. This makes costumers very curios and they talk about rumors and it becomes free advertisement for Apple. And the opening becomes like an event. There are lines of people waiting outside starting about 24 hours before the opening and then the whole staff comes out excited and encouraging. Also, every time someone buys an app, apple gets 30 % of the profit and they also get money for any advertising shown on the app.
MICROSOFT
IBM was this big company that made computers but they couldn't make a good software, so they made a deal with a group super geeks lead by Bill Gates. The deal let Microsoft keep most of their rights to the software they made and therefor they made tons of money when IBMs computers were sold.
SONY
At first Sony would not allow adult context on their Blu-ray discs. But their competitor, Toshiba did allow it on their HD DVD and because of that they did better than Sony. After a few months Sony decided to join in on the mass market to be able to stay competitive and make more money. To sell more of their products they also put a Blu-ray in all of their play stations.
NOKIA
After the mobile phone came out, Nokia started making different and more personal phones so that people had more to chose from. They claimed the number one spot and recently they have been selling about one million phones a day. But they got a bit left behind when the iPhone came along and revolutionized the way we look at a cellphone.
FACEBOOK
To get or have Facebook doesn't cost anything so they make money in a different way. When signing up for Facebook you fill in some personal information. This information is used to pick out the right advertisements just for you. Therefore, putting your advertisement on the site is very expensive for companies an that is how they make their money
GOOGLE
Google also make their money from advertisements. Using all of their apps and functions are all for free. But every time someone clicks on the advertisements on Google they get money. Not more than a few pennies each time, but since it's done constantly the money adds up.
